Therapists in our Community work with Individual Adults, Children, Teens and Families
Individual therapy means working one-on-one with a mental health professional. Individual therapy is beneficial in that it provides a safe place for you to share your concerns and address uncomfortable symptoms. It also provides opportunities for personal growth. Every therapeutic relationship is unique and, for therapy to be effective, it is important that you feel safe and comfortable with the therapist you choose.
Many teens benefit from one-on-one therapy. Therapy offers a safe place to obtain guidance and support during this time of budding independence, and is a good resource as teens work to develop positive coping skills. Therapy can help when a teen feels sad, worried, or anxious, and when these or other issues affect a teen’s positive health and development.
Parents seek therapy for their children for a variety of reasons. Perhaps your child or pre-teen is going through a challenging time at school or at home; Perhaps your child, or their close friend or relative, is dealing with a physical or mental health issue; Perhaps your child or pre-teen is feeling anxious, sad or stressed without really knowing why. Therapy is a valuable tool for helping children and pre-teens work through issues they may be facing and build new coping tools.
Family therapy is a type of counseling that can help family members improve communication, resolve conflict, and deepen family connections. Family therapy might include all family members, or just those who are able or willing to participate. Family therapy is helpful for a variety of circumstances, such as grief or loss, conflict between parent and child, and coping with a family member’s mental illness or substance abuse, to name a few.
Couples therapy is a type of counseling aimed at helping couples improve their relationship. The focus is on the issue or concern the couple brings to therapy, which will be different for every couple. Issues common to couples therapy include conflict, infidelity, jealousy, illness, addiction, job loss, and issues with children.
